Welcome to Five Ring Youth Circus! Five Ring is a hub for young people (recommended ages 14-25). We use circus, performance, and physical skills to develop and enhance young people’s lives. Five Ring have performed locally, and nationally.

Five Ring is for young people that want to focus their circus training and have the opportunity to perform as individuala, and as part of ensemble acts. During term time, Five Ring meet twice a week to train and develop their circus skills. Half term intensives also occur for focused creative performance development.

Each year Five Ring have the opportunity to perform, typically for both local and national audiences. 2019 saw Five Ring members and graduates perform to an international audience at the European Juggling Convention, televised nationally at Sunday for Sammy, and locally at The Northern Celebration of Education at Northumbria University.

Five Ring members will train across all circus disciplines including:

  • Equilibristics e.g. unicycling, tightwire, stiltwalking
  • Manipulation e.g. juggling, hula hoop
  • Acrobatics e.g. partner acro, handstands
  • Aerial e.g. trapeze, silks, ropes
  • Stretch e.g. contortion

Five Ring is about community: everyone is welcome. We create a safe, inclusive space for young people to have fun and build lasting friendships.

We help young people to develop and explore their potential as performers, but also as individuals. Five Ring builds personal and professional skills like confidence, teamwork, and self-reflection: all through the medium of circus!

We also include accredited programmes like Arts Awards. This allows young people to collect UCAS points in the effort to build a strong portfolio for their future.

Many Five Ring graduates go on to join our BTEC programmes. Longer term graduates have gone on to: found their own companies and tour with international artists, become professional artists, or become Circus Central mentors. Others have taken the transferrable skills Five Ring has given them and applied them to successful careers in IT, STEM, and joinery.

Five Ring is taught by a mix of our fantastic mentors. Teaching staff include Five Ring graduates, local and international artists, professional street performers and artistic directors. We show young people the variety and value the industry offers.

"Hi Claire, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Circus Central Youth Troupe for their wonderful show on Saturday. It was hard work in the heat and with all the stage arrangements and they coped with it admirably, people really enjoyed the performance. They group were really friendly and lovely to work with. So thanks to their expertise, skill and true professionalism they made it happen.

It was an absolute pleasure working with them – please pass on our thanks and congratulations."
