BTEC Level 2

We are taking this step towards accredited circus education to help us consolidate our progression route through our classes and to assist us in ensuring that we are equipping our young circus artists with the skills they need should the wish to pursue a career within the Arts industry.

The awarding body for this qualification is Pearson Edexcel.

BTEC Level 2 First Award in Performing Arts and Circus
120 Guided Learning Hours (Actual 167 hours)


CORE UNITS:

There are three units within this course:

Unit 1: Individual Showcase
This is an externally assessed unit, which focuses on the development of a written application and two performance pieces in a chosen style or discipline, with the aim of performing them within the context of an audition. The pieces are created in response to material released by the exam board.

Unit 2: Preparation, Performance and Production
This is an internally assessed unit, which has a focus on the process an artist undertakes to prepare and create a piece of work ready for performance

Unit 7: Production Skills for Performance
This unit is internally assessed and shall encourage learners to explore the production elements of their performance work and will take into account technical aspects, design or construction skills.

WHAT YOU GET:

We are proposing the following weekly term time hours for the course:

  • Wednesday 5-7pm, Mill Lane
  • Saturday 2-5pm, Mill Lane

There shall also be non-term time training hours that take place during each half term, excluding the Christmas Holidays. The days run 10am-5pm.

Proposed dates are as follows:

  • October half term 28th & 29th October
  • February half term 17th & 18th February
  • Easter Holiday 13th, 14th & 15th April
  • May half term 25th & 26th May
  • Summer holidays 23rd & 24th July (final performance showcase)

(These are proposed dates and may change as details of the course are finalised)

These are set hours for the course to ensure that all training, material and assessments are covered. However, as always, we shall endeavour to seek further performance and training opportunities for the group to enhance their learning and experience.

The total fee for this course will be £1450. This fee includes fees from the exam board and teaching fees.

On Saturday 8th June, 5pm at Mill Lane we have an open evening where you can come and ask any questions that you may have about this course.
