Circus Central’s BTEC training programme, is now entering it’s third year of existence and has been designed specifically to support those who wish to enter circus as a career through a combination of theoretical and practical units of study.
Each learner shall follow a programme of study that includes physical training and conditioning, creative development, and the creation of individual and ensemble acts alongside theoretical studies to develop the learner’s knowledge of roles within the arts. Regular weekly training sessions take place during term time and equate to 10 hours of guided training, and intensive training and creative periods take place during non-term time.
All acts that are created will have the opportunity to be performed at various events throughout the course, including The Late Shows in central Newcastle, and at Circus in a Field! – the Let’s Circus summer gathering held in Northumberland each August.
Learners will work with a core team of Circus Central mentors, as well as training with specialist circus artists and professionals from the performing arts industry throughout the course.
Learners will be required to take part in core modules as well as specialize in two circus disciplines of their choosing.

Being on the BTEC has given me a chance to truly dedicate myself to focused training and act development in skills outside of my comfort zone. It's given me the chance to get feedback and guidance from experienced professionals that I admire. It's been hard at times, but I've made friends with some great people, I'm learning so much and I love doing it.- Mahum Butt, class of 2016
